How did they meet?
Cate hailing from a small beach town in the panhandle of Florida, and Ivan across the world living in the mountains of Bern, Switzerland. Who would have thought they would cross paths?
Cate was leading her first Christian Surfers Discipleship Training School (CSDTS) in YWAM Perth, Australia, and Ivan was on the sign up list to participate in this very school!
Two totally different worlds collided in the begging of February 2019, when the school began. Let's just say that from there it's all history!
Where has their love story taken them so far?
Starting from Camping in the outback, to chilling in Floridian beaches, Motorcycling through France, and hiking in the Swiss Alpes, this couple has been blessed with adventure. There seems to be few dull moments in figuring out life with Cate and Ivan. Both dreaming of being missionaries and going where the Good LORD leads, this is just the beginning of it all. With 7 grand and vast continents to discover, their home can fit in their backpacks. Together with the Father, This marriage will be filled with stories of God's passion for people. All they have to say is, "Let the adventure of life as a missionary continue!".
When and where was the proposal?
It was September 2019, and only 2 months after they became an official couple. After a great day with the Father at the Light the Fire Again conference in Florida, Ivan invited Cate to celebrate the Holy Spirit with a glass of wine under the stars. With two beach chairs in the back of Cate's pickup, the perfect moment happened. Ivan popped the question and gifted Cate with a beautiful wave shaped engagement ring, and so the journey began!
What is this Celebration about?
Since we are already married, we want to explain what this day means to us. We want this to be a celebration because we are married. We want that this is a simple and peaceful day to rest in the fact that we are one. We want to be commissioned into being married missionaries, and delight together with friends and family in the expectation of the future that awaits us. We will have a very different ceremony with things maybe not seen as commonly as "I DO". We will be tucked away in the mountains during the ceremony, and we will have a reception in the backyard of YWAM Chatel! We feel so blessed to be able to celebrate and we are praying for good weather as spring starts o creep up on us.
Love story?
In 2019, as Ivan "social media stalked" his up coming DTS leaders he came across Cate's page. Ivan showed a picture to one of his friends and casually said, "This girl will be my wife bro." Thinking she was beautiful, but wanting only to focus on his relationship with Jesus, when he came to DTS he immediately told his mentor (another staff) that he wanted to keep his distance for a while. So, the first three months of the six month school he did just that. It was only the second half, when the DTS split in two, that their friendship grew. Their love slowly sprouted throughout the course of the following months until finally confessions of love came and the journey began!
