Insider tips for building a successful gift registry

Brighten Your Registry with Summer Sizzle

Brighten Your Registry with Summer Sizzle, a group of people sitting on a rooftop patio, around a table, having a small party.

Fourth of July weekend is almost here, and it’s expected to include more barbecues, parades, and fireworks than ever before. Summer’s in full swing, and this year, everyone is especially eager to celebrate and kick back with friends.

Say “summer” to us and two things come to mind:

  • Color and visuals. With long, bright days, summer brings with it all sorts of vibrant colors—in our gardens, and in the reflections of the sun as it bounces off the beaches, pools, and mountains we all want to escape to.
  • Social gatherings. It’s also a time when everyone is eager to be out and about, participating in all sorts of social and outdoor activities.

So we suggest getting into the summer vibe and reflecting a seasonal look in your registry. Customers tell us they appreciate their favorite brands and retailers weaving visuals that evoke summer days into their marketing and merchandising to show they’re in sync with the season. And this year, they love it more than ever as pandemic restrictions ease and they eagerly plan outings.

Here are some quick and easy ways to create that summer feeling. No worries, they can add summer sizzle AND still be easy to implement—no sweat!

Be Colorful and Visual

It’s been said that a picture is worth a thousand words, and in today’s fast-paced world that adage has special relevance. In fact, research shows that images will attract attention and sell better than words alone. With customers bombarded with information and everyone’s attention span shorter than ever, we’re all for ideas that engage customers at a glance.

There’s no need to give your marketing materials a major overhaul, nor to spend a lot of money. Just take a quick inventory of what you have out there, and look for a few ways to insert some summery-looking and -feeling elements.

  • Refresh your registry home page. And we’ll help! We recently added new templates and free-form copy options that let you change the look and feel of your registry page in just a few steps. Update the image with products and a backdrop that are all about summer, and revise your copy as well. (And do it again when fall rolls around.)

And keep in mind that you can carry that summer image into other marketing materials.

Now, with your creative juices flowing, think about some other quick tweaks you can make.

  • Bursts on website pages. A colorful burst shouting out a “must-have gift for summer” is attention grabbing and easy to do.
  • In-store signage. Even if you don’t want to add visuals, print signs using colorful fonts or a border to spotlight new merchandise or a great gift. Again, you can grab attention without the need for much copy.
  • Customer communications. Similarly, adding colorful type or product images that showcase top items for the season is all you need.
  • Summer checklists. While they’re not typically a core registry tool, consider creating tips and lists of great gifts that make summer living—entertaining or just chilling at home—fun and easy.

Be Social—And Do It in a Big Way

Tap into the mood of your customers—everyone’s eager to be social, so be more social yourself. Go all out with your social media, using the platforms most comfortable for you. It’s well worth doing because:

  • Social media has become the dominant way people communicate—especially customers who are your best registry prospects (18 to 35 year olds). Even older customers are increasingly using social media to be in the know, so you’ll reach them as well. Be where they can find you, and get more visibility for your registry. Research also suggests that the more active you are, the more customer engagement you’ll build.
  • By design, your social platforms are all about exciting images delivered in quick bites. Not only does social media tap into the use of visuals, which we love, it recognizes that most customers have short attention spans and won’t process lots of copy. And how great that these marketing tools are low cost and easy to implement so you can maintain a steady stream of summer-inspired posts to engage your customers?

Social media also gives you a chance to show your products being enjoyed by customers living the good summer life, and to invite engagement.

  • Show customers using your products, with a focus on summer celebrating, and include just a bit of copy that promotes your registry. Just note that if you set your copy apart from the image, many customers won’t even see it.
  • Tag hot products as great gifts when they’re the “hero” of the visual.
  • Be sure to include your social icons on all gift registry materials (year round) so customers know where to find you. It’s all about connecting (or reminding them to connect) everywhere, all the time.
  • Invite customers to participate and share their own stories. Boldly ask them to follow you and comment on their gift favorites. They’ll feel valued, and that can build loyalty. Not to mention, it will encourage them to share with friends and further extend your brand reach. More activity and interaction on social media will steadily grow your customer base.

Get out there and be colorful and creative, and have a great month!
